Behind bars

A late autumn day on the balcony

Yes, those are my knees. And yes, this photo was taken today. One of those days where I check my work email at 7:30am and before I know it it's midday and I am still in the clothes I woke up in. And out of the wind it was pleasantly warm on the balcony, which was compensation for missing my daily commute on the Yamanote Line, especially as apparently the heating in the office wasn't working properly.

Nice to see the sun shinning over there, the weather is the real benefit of moving from England to Japan.

Hmm, don't want to spoil your enthusiasm too much but it's not like that all the time, at least in Tokyo / eastern Japan; it's pretty chilly when the sun isn't shining. Still, it does a lot more than in the UK, I suspect.

It's been a particularly bad year in England weather-wise. No summer I can recollect. I remember the weather being a lot better over there.

I haven't lived in the UK for years and forget what it's like. The summers are definitely a lot warmer here, albeit to the other extreme, i.e. a bit on the hot side. In Tokyo at least the really hot period doesn't last too long though.

After some rather chill rain last night it's another nice sunny morning, with a bit of luck I should be able to do the balcony thing again.

Whereabouts in Japan are you heading for?

My wife's from Chiba, so its looking like it'll be there. Possibly Ichikawa. Though Tokyo is an option, I'd like to live on the west side of the city.

Some people swear by the Shitamachi side of the city, but I'm definitely a western Tokyo aficionado. (It's much higher above sea-level for one thing ;) ).

I didn't know penguins had knees.

We usually keep them tucked up underneath our bellies.

What made you chose the west side, where would you recommend?
