Namboku Line
The Tokyo Metro Namboku Line (南北線, Namboku-sen, line code N) literally means "North-South Line", and Tokyo Metro being a company of few surprises, it runs - more-or-less - in a north-south direction. (If you are looking for a line which runs roughly east-west, try the Tozai Line).
Fascinating Namboku Line Facts
The Namboku Line is one of Tokyo's newer underground lines, and is the only one to have full-height platform-edge doors. This has the advantage that the chances of a suicidal maniac splattering themselves over the underside of the train are vastly reduced, but gives the stations a somewhat claustrophobic feeling.
It is also the only Tokyo Metro line which shares tracks with a Toei line, with a somewhat confusing joint-running arrangement with the Mita Line between Meguro and Shirokane-Takanawa stations.
